Elegant Entertainment Centers

If you love to watch movies, have kids who love to watch movies, or have an unruly amount of c.d.’s floating around your home – you probably have some type of entertainment center in your home. For many, the entertainment center because somewhat of a “centerpiece” of the home, and rightfully so. Getting the family together for movie night or having some friends over for the evening to watch a favorite show can create some great memories and lasting traditions. The only problem is that many homeowners let their otherwise beautiful entertainment space get a little bit out of control. Sure, your DVD collection might be impressive – but if you have to spend an hour searching for the film you’re looking for, that might be your heads up to get your movies in line – literally.

As a kid, our home entertainment center was a simple cart that housed the TV and a VCR. Not very impressive, but it worked fine. I think it might have had a little storage shelf, but I have no idea what was put there. There was no such thing as a remote control so every time we wanted to change channels we had to make a little trip across the room to switch channels. Of course, there were only three channels so it’s not like we had to change it that often. Thankfully, TVs grew up and so did the places people put them in.

If music is a passion, chances are you have more c.d.’s than you know what to do with. The firs step is ensuring that each c.d. is in its rightful case. Its easy for c.d.’s to become mixed up over time, especially if you’re taking a disc out in order to put another in. You may put it in a random case to get it out of the way for the time being. Although it might be time consuming, checking each case to make sure that your whole collection is where it belongs is the first step to getting organized.

A book shelf is too large for c.d.’s, so a smaller substitute can come into play when getting this collection in line. Shoebox shaped clear boxes can be purchased at just about any retailer or even dollar store. By organizing your collection by artist, style, or genre – you can easily split up the boxes so you will know exactly where the c.d. you’re looking for is located. Instead of rifling through piles of unorganized discs, you can now pull out a genre box and quickly locate the item you’re looking for.

The only thing I can think of that would make me want any sort of cabinet type home entertainment center in the future is if I were to get one of those fancy schmancy lifts that hook onto the TV and allow it to recess into, and lift out of, a nice wooden cabinet. I would consider that. Especially if it had a remote control to run the lift. That might be too good to pass up.
