Romance is indeed alive in modern poetry, er, pottery. These adorable pieces copy traditional designs but each copy is still unique. Each bears the imprint of the potter’s creative mind, his feelings, his lust for life and beauty, humor, and romance. Each piece is lovingly shaped at the potter’s wheel before it is directed to the fire to assume its final and strengthened shape.

Having a piece of pottery in your home is similar to having a Monet or a Degas painting. The gold coin tray or a basket tray may not be perfectly shaped, however that is part of their charm. The elaborate curve of the vase or pitcher and the addition of color on a round tray are a combination of the potter’s hands and art. The shape of the piece may even surprise her at times because the piece is shaped as the potter works with the clay. Others are planned creations that are drawn with colors picked out before the clay is bought.

The more complicated and well-designed pieces were for royalty and rich merchants. Stoneware was commonplace in the average household. But these days, whatever make is prized for their distinctive characteristics.
