Kitchen Decor On A Budget
Have you redecorated your kitchen lately? If it has been a while since you have you may be ready for a change. The key to creating a chic kitchen is in the floor plan. There are four different types of kitchen layouts:
There are four different types of floor plans: Galley: this is when the appliances face each other; L-shape: This is where the appliances are perpendicular; U-shape: this is where the kitchen is carefully arranged on three walls; G-shape: this is where the kitchen counters make a u-shape
If your kitchen is in anything other than one of these designs, then you’ll be stuck with simply buying some new kitchen towels unless you have a rich auntie who’d love to update your cooking space.
You may want to find an interior decorator that can give you a couple of hours for a consultation at a low rate. What can a professional decorate do to help? a professional decorator can help you plan where you should place things and how to get the most out of your space.
Start with every designer’s favorite inexpensive tool, a fresh coat of paint. This is one of the most economical ways to transform a kitchen. Begin by checking out the kitchen ceiling. If it looks greasy and yellow, put on your rubber gloves and clean it until the grease is all gone. Then paint it bright white. You’ll be surprised at how much the kitchen lightens up.
Next decide what colors you want the walls to be. Remember, there’s a psychology to color, that is, different colors have different effects on humans. Bright, warm colors such as reds, oranges and yellows tend to enhance appetites. Blue tends to take away appetites, but can be used as an excellent accent color in a kitchen. A black-and-white color scheme can result in either a very Contemporary kitchen, or a kitchen that harks back to Victorian times. The difference is in the details.
A detail that many people overlook is a good quality area rug that’s appropriate for standing and walking in a kitchen. A low-pile rug with cushioning will save the cook’s aching back. Be sure to choose something bright to match the color scheme.
Replace all the hardware on the kitchen drawers and cabinets. What look are you going for? A Contemporary look can be created with brushed nickel knobs. If you want a vintage look then add brass knobs. Make yourself a budget and then go shopping.
Add the right lighting to your kitchen. Remember that it is important to create a relaxing room. Traditional fixtures can work well in this design. A fluted glass shade displayed over a natural light bulb can create a vintage style. Add a chandelier.
Finally, if you can’t afford new cabinets, why not paint them? It’s a time-consuming project, but again, it’s inexpensive and makes a major improvement. Take off the doors and sand them down to take off the old finish. Then sand the interiors and cabinet frames. Paint the insides first, then all the frames, and lastly the doors. Once everything is completely (and we do mean completely) dry, re-hang the doors and voila! New kitchen!
Home Kitchen Design experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the braided indoor outdoor area rugs.
