All About Desks And Its Types
Planning to buy a desk? Well, you should first decide the purpose for which you shall use the desk for and then the kind of model you need. You should also base your selection on the available space in your room for the desk. Today, with increasing number of gadgets and appliances like computers and music system, the desks have also been improvised to keep up with the ever changing needs of the people.
A large variety of desks are available in the market today. They are used for different purposes. While few of them can be used as writing tables, the other can be used as computer tables. There are a lot more uses of these tables. A few models of these have been present for a few decades. Some of these which are presently available have been mentioned below:
Early, Computer, Fall Front, Wooton, Slant top and Portable desks.
Early desk: The initial origin of these is not known for sure. However, it is speculated that these desks were used on the educational societies of Greece and Rome. Back then, in the medieval times, there were hardly any available because, not many were educated back then. And the only few who were educated happened to be in either the teaching or the administrative department.
Consequently, such kinds of desks were there only in the place of work of these academicians and administrators. These tables were predominantly employed for writing. However, a small number of these tables were also accessorized with drawers and gaps for keeping the scholarly writings and copied manuscripts. The dimensions of these tables were considerably big as the size of the books and documents that had to be stored was also large.
Secretary desk: Renowned for their height, these tables had an added advantage of having many drawers in their design. As high as seven feet, this model of tables had a special design. The top end of the model was narrowed down and hinged so that whenever it closes, it forms a closed angle. This particular model was first created many decades ago and even today, it is accessible in several styles and designs.
Slant top desk: The slant top table is designed in the same manner as a secretary desk. The only difference between these two models is that its top surface is not hinged. The trade name for this desk is bureau desk. The chief advantage of this model is that it is light weighted and it can be handled with a lot of convenience. In addition to that, the small size of this table allows it to occupy lesser workspace in your office and this feature gives it an extra edge over the secretary desk.
The primary drawback of all the above desks is that they take up a large portion of the workspace in your office, thereby leaving very less room for the rest of the things. Apart from that, there are no difficulties associated with these desks and you can use them conveniently for any purpose that you want.
